Our Story

History of the School's Establishment

The suburb of Caversham is located in a beautiful part of the Perth metropolitan area, right on the doorstep of the Swan Valley.

Caversham Valley PS is built on Whadjuk Noongar land, situated between Bennett Brook and the Swan River. Bennett Brook and the extensive wetland systems associated with the Swan River is of high significance to the local Noongar people, both spiritually and as a place to hunt and gather food. They would move along the reaches of Bennett Brook while transitioning from the Guildford area to Lake Gnangara and the freshwater chain of wetlands that extend from Lake Goolelal to Yanchep. This connection with the land is still of vital importance to the local Noongar community.

The suburb of Caversham was one of the first areas in the Swan Valley to introduce viticulture. As well as containing many wineries, it is also an up-and-coming residential area with numerous estates being built around the suburb.

Our school was built on land that had previously been used for viticulture and horticulture and now caters for new housing developments in the area. It was initially given the planning name of 'Caversham South Primary School’ in 2019.

In July 2019 George Craig was appointed as the foundation principal in the lead up to the school’s opening in 2020. During this time the community was engaged in the process of naming the school, deciding on its logo and designing the school uniform. The Parent Steering Committee was instrumental in these decisions and the initial shaping of the school’s direction.

Prior to opening, the school’s name was changed to ’Caversham Valley’ to reflect the suburb of Caversham that the school services, as well as its proximity to the Swan Valley.

The blue colours of our school uniform represent Bennett Brook and the Swan River, while the green represents the grape vines and agricultural heritage of the local area.
